Dr. Yacoub earned his medical degree at St. George's University School of Medicine. His training took him to the City of New York Hospital System, and St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson New Jersey. He completed his postgraduate work at the Health Science Center of the State University of New York in Syracuse, where he trained as a pediatrician. He then trained in child neurology at DuPont Hospital (Nemours) in Wilmington Delaware, and continued his general neurology training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He is a fellowship trained neurophysiologist with special expertise in epilepsy, neuromuscular disorders of adults and children, and in sleep medicine. The breadth of his post graduate experience included a journeyman's approach to absorb the broadest experience in medical and surgical emergencies. In addition to his fellowship experience as a neurophysiologist with specialization in epilepsy and neuromuscular disorders, Dr. Yacoub was an attending physician in the emergency department at Nemours Children's Hospital as well as the emergency department at the Veterans Administration, where his duties extended to managing the medical needs of residents in the nursing home. His comfort with managing patients of all ages has always been an integral part of his identity as a physician. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge as the director of Acclaim Neurology's neurodiagnostics lab. And most importantly, his compassion and empathy has garnered renown among his patients and in his community.
If you ask him why he finds being a neurologist so rewarding, one must be prepared for a recitation of Emily Dickinson's poem from 1862:
The Brain – is wider than the Sky –
For – put them side by side –
The one the other will contain
With ease – and You – beside –
The Brain is deeper than the sea –
For – hold them – Blue to Blue –
The one the other will absorb –
As Sponges – Buckets – do –
The Brain is just the weight of God –
For – Heft them – Pound for Pound –
And they will differ – if they do –
As Syllable from Sound –

On-site electroencephalography and ambulatory EEG are used in the assessment of seizure disorder.
Prepare for your EEG by foregoing your usual hair preparation other than combing your hair. A gel and or paste is applied in performing the examination. This is removed and the hair cleaned, any residue shampoos out easily without any harm to the patient's hair.
Nerve conduction and electromyography are used in the diagnosis of nerve pain and muscle weakness.
On site EMG is performed by the physician himself with discussion of the results with the patient as the examination proceeds and upon its conclusion.
Refrain from applying any creams or lotions on your skin prior to the test
Assessments of developmental delay, learning disorders, adult attention deficit disorder, along with onset in childhood ADHD. Testing done in office. Consultation with cognitive behavioral therpaists may be in order.
Evaluation of dementia in the older patient. Assessment of cause, and determination of best practices for medical and cognitive therapy.
None of us is at our best if we are not getting good restful sleep. Undiagnosed sleep disturbances are often at the heart of many lingering and common problems, for example headaches.
A multi-disciplinary approach is often most helpful and may include, in addition to a neurologist, a pulmonary consultation, and respiratory therapists
